Just wanted to say, thanks for posting that last poll tournament! Hanamusa was basically my gateway back into the wider Pokémon fandom (I’ve still played most of the core games bar Sword/Shield, but I dropped off the anime around the middle of X/Y), so I’ve got a lot of attachment there, but I learned a lot from seeing all the different pairings and it was really fun seeing people championing them (and I’ll always be an Appealshipping cheerleader!).
I know setting up these polls is what you set up this account for, but I also know it takes a lot of work and setup, so thanks!
THANK YOUUU ;_; THIS MEANS A LOT!! im so happy that people have been enjoying the tournament!!

whats your is one thing that you feel strongly about a fandom/media you like that no one else gets?
Aloy, from the Horizon video game series (Zero Dawn, Forbidden West) is a rat, in the way that she's constantly weaseling her way into spaces she isn't supposed to be in and causing problems on purpose. whether that's clambering around the vents in the GAIA base, climbing absurdly high buildings with zero regard for safety (much to Alva's concern, in the Leviathan quest), or brute forcing her way through social interactions (so many questions, she needs to know everything always all of the time), the outcast lifestyle definitely had a lasting impact on her lmao
she is not the voice of reason among her friends, she is the voice of "i'll do it till it's done even if it kills me" much to the concern of EVERYONE around her. someone make this girl take a break because giving her one is not gonna be enough for her to take it. she fought what was essentially a god to her, fell 30-50 feet into water below, swam a decent ways away while being shot at by essentially alien laser guns, was sucked underwater by a current, bashed into several things, thrown off a cliff face in a waterfall, bashed around some more, knocked unconscious, and still tried to get up walk around and keep going a day after the fact. the only reason she seems like a somewhat rational person is because everyone else on the goddamn planet has lost their minds. i love her <3

Event Horizon AU ask!
Are there any occasions where going Final Boss actually helps? Like: The Sadness is gone. So is a few hundred cubic feet of earth behind where it was, but the Sadness is gone. Now how do we talk Siffrin out of a spiral when his ears are all the way up there?
Tumblr media
definitely! if sifs not too out of it from his own emotions he could probably just one shot any enemies they came across. though, siffrin doesnt like being in that form (the emotion supresserrr) so the situations where its useful are probably pretty few and far between
as for the second thing...
Tumblr media
im sure theyll figure something out.

Prompt: I know you aren’t big on the RVTs but it’s an option lol-
Friede gets more sick after the winter fic with Frankie in it and the RVTs get worried and try to help him (I would say Orla as relationship cause I’m a sucker for Friede x Orla but if you are comfy with it I think it would be really cute to have the kids-especially Liko cause I think their pseudo parent-child relationship is the strongest- help out or something)
(Bonus-Frankie smack talking the RVTs lol)
I know it’s a long shot for what you usually write…but if you want a challenge :)
Thanks for sending this prompt! It was super fun to write. I realized afterword that I actually wrote two different Frankie and Friede winter fics. One where he causes an avalanche, and another where he falls through the ice and is saved by Conia.
I've been meaning to rewrite the avalanche fic to post to my ao3, so I went with that one! For anyone who's already read the original fic, the first ~1.5k are similar, but now there's an additional 3.5k of Friede hurt/comfort and fluff
I went with both Orla/Friede and cute moments with the kids, so I hope it's to your liking ^^

every time you post about starset I remember how good they are and have to go listen. they rule live too. do you have a favorite song on Transmissions? I think mine is Let It Die 🤘🎶
Ohhhhh that’s tough, Down with the Fallen, Point of No Return, and Let It Die are top 3 for sure but sorting them within there is too hard, they’re all so poetic and melodic and passionate and they’re absolutely carrying my emotional state through my breakup a few months ago lmao😅🤘🏻🤘🏻💕💕

i love your art style so much, it's rad as hell. how long have you been drawing? :o
you mean the goofy little sketches i do from time to time? if so, that's really kind of you to say!!! that said, i wouldn't necessarily say they're the peak of my drawing abilities though, since i just draw with a mouse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i use to draw a lot when i was growing up, though after getting Gmod for the first time, and subsequently SFM, i moved over into those programs to make my art, and kinda stopped drawing from that point.
i don't normally draw a whole lot these days, but when it comes to how i draw the stuff above, really i just find the messiness of using a mouse to draw really goofy, that and it's kinda nice to draw stuff without it needing to be perfect. it's just silly lines.
but regardless, thank you for the kind words, im glad you like my silly stuff
#ask#now if you meant the sketch of Boe that i use for my icon and a few other goofy posts i made? that was drawn by my friend Kikkini#(Kikkinimomini on Twitter)#i think he has a tumblr account too but i don't remember his handle offhand...#that sketch of Boe was one of the first ones he sent me. regarding a skeleton OC.#i really feel he struck a really good balance between ominous and kinda goofy with the sketch#that and the inclusion of the mohawk being pink really sold it for me#i would like to try and create how i actually imagine Boes world in Limbo and Hell some day#which. is very similar to Gorillaz' Phase 2 era and old ''find the hidden object games'' like Mystery Case Files Ravenhearst#in which its just like. full of junk and polution and whatnot#though with Limbo specifically. i imagine blue/purple clouded night skies over roaming empty grassy fields with nothing in the horizon#and Boes house being in the center of it all. with a long empty road in front of it#i think of Boes house as like. similar to the Ravenhearst manor or the iSpy spooky mansion#old fashioned house with a lot of junk inside#i also kinda think about Pajama Sam's colour palette in the land of darkness a lot regarding limbo and hell#the purples and dark blues of the night sky. the reds and oranges of the lava caves.#id kinda want to make what i imagine in the Source engine. but i already have trouble starting stuff in Hammer as it is#maybe some day i'll commit to it and design what i want. but ough.....#anyway thank you for the kind words anon!!!

Some off-the-cuff thoughts on overspiritualizing patterns in science
I remember watching a talk in middle school youth group about laminin, the "molecule that holds your whole body together" which was supposedly shaped like a cross. The suggestion, basically, was that the cross's image was integral to our molecular makeup and that this was part of God's design in a very Significant way. I was a burgeoning STEM girl, so I taped a diagram of a laminin up next to my bed for a while.
(As I would later find out, the whole laminin thing had/has some reach among Christians. There are T-shirts and everything)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fast forever to spring of my freshman year as a microbiology student. I take my first course in cell bio, and I learn that laminins are actually one of many families of ECM glycoproteins. They aren't really any more significant in "holding the body together" than collagens, elastins, or fibronectins. They're very important, yes, but ultimately just one type of adhesive protein among many. And! They also do a bunch of other stuff that's way cooler than just. Adhesive.
While some laminins do bear resemblance to a cross when diagramed, it's really only because they have three subchains. Some are t-shaped, but others are y-shaped, and those don't look anything like a cross. Also, when they're in situ rather than in a nice, neat diagram, they tend to be all floppy and then they look even less cross-like.
Tumblr media
Source
And when I learned about this I was oddly relieved. It felt like I was right about something that I couldn't even put into words, and that somehow the field of what I could call glorious had grown wider.
Christians are called to see and marvel at the presence of God in creation. I love doing that! I see God left and right through my scientific studies. Yet I also know that the human brain is pattern-seeking and that we are prone to pareidolia. I honestly don't know that there's a substantive difference between seeing the cross in some laminins and seeing Jesus on a piece of toast. It's all just seeing patterns that arise from something else (in the case of laminins, being able to bind three different molecules at once) and attributing spiritual significance. God is sovereign and maybe in the grand scope of his vision for creation it means something, but in terms of seeing God's hand in science I just find it so... small?
You could spin so many four-chain or four-domain proteins or goodness knows how many other molecules into images of the cross if you pick the right diagram. You could take every pattern of three in nature (and there are many!) as an image of the Trinity. If you really, really wanted to, you could take every six in organic chemistry as a sign of the beast, which would be hilarious in its misguidedness. It just becomes so literalistic and dull so very fast.
Look! Wouldn't you rather talk about the fact that laminins begin to appear along the edge of a developing lung at just ten weeks of human embryonic development, suggesting that they play a role in alveolar morphogenesis? That they're present in the neural stem-cell niche, which makes them an attractive candidate for helping to treat degenerative neurological conditions? I want to go back to whoever gave that talk that I watched in youth group and shake him and say, "God did that, and you're still hung up on the fact that laminins have three subchains?"
#God is so so big and as a result the horizons of science are ENORMOUS#very often when Christians talk about science it's with a tone of '#see! look we found it! the God molecule! incontrovertible proof of the divine!'#and like. my brothers and sisters in Christ. God didn't create the world for us to prove our way to him#he created a world that shouts and cries his name but we have to know HIM first! not the other way around#you're not gonna find God in Laminins if you're fixated on it being this big significant Thing that Proves that GOD SIGNS HIS HANDIWORK!#you can absolutely meet him there if you take the time to marvel at the glory of a molecule this versatile#about which we can ask questions! and draw closer to our creator by understanding his creation better!#just. i feel such a grave responsibility and a glorious joy towards promoting scientific literacy among Christians#it's hard to describe but in a lot of ways it's the thing i want most to do with my life#also to be clear: not trying to vague-post about anyone#Kaylie's post about quarks did inspire this but only insomuch as it skirted right up against this subject#about which i clearly have a lot to say#the original post was gleeful and charming and I'm so glad that you're enjoying your physics book!#just. i think it's important not to fixate on the symbols at the expense of the actual wonders of creation#wow I am such a woman in stem#good grief#pontifications and creations#all truth is god's truth#endless forms most beautiful

i really want to see seyka and talanah interact tbh. i think that aloy had a massive unrequited crush on talanah through zero dawn (and some of forbidden west!) and seyka would simply see the two of them talk to each other and Know and be insanely jealous. talanah and seyka would be best friends tho
like just PICTURE these interactions with me. seyka enthusiastically telling aloy about hunting machines with talanah and learning about the lodge. aloy being interested and referencing her time as a thrush. seyka getting pouty and playfully jealous. talanah has no idea any of this is going on while also being in the room.

Happy STS! Is there any advice you‘d give your younger writing self?
Happy STS!
Thanks for the ask, Sandra!
Gosh, I wish I hadn't been such a stubborn twit and had given in to trying out writing sooner than July of 2020, but uh, I didn't, so. If I could go back to that version, there'd be many more things I'd tell that self other than go write, it's fun! you already do it in your head, just put it on paper!, but that would be one of them.
But 2020 me? 2020 writing me, I'd tell to stop worrying about other people's opinions so much and just write what you want to write, when you want to write it, how you want to write it. To not worry about the down time-you didn't give up, you were just giving yourself time to recharge and generate new ideas. To share! Share wide and share far, because you will never find your people if you don't!

I am gradually getting acquainted with the history of Victoria and it is really amazing. Although I still have a lot to learn about her... I'm terribly interested (really, maybe you've already said this) what would Victoria's reaction be to the participants of the Distant Zenith? Yep, who's about what, and I'm about them :,)
Tumblr media
Ohhhhhhh~ this is a great question, and not one I've really touched on yet in my writing!
Victoria's character arc revolves around themes of grief, loss, tragedy, and acceptance. During humanity's last moments against the Faro Plague, she had accepted she was going to die. She made her peace with that despite how terrified she was, and fully believed that Project: Zero Dawn was going to be humanity's last chance to win (which it was, just not in the way she thought) and she gave everything she had to fight against the inevitable.
After learning about Far Zenith, who they were and how they escaped, she can't help but despise them. They're her people in a sense, they remember the Old World but as far as Victoria's concerned they're nothing but a bunch cowards who took the easy way out.
As for her opinion on a certain Zenith with a love and fascination with New Earth's Machines, it would take Vicki some time to warm up to her if there was ever an interaction. She won't see Allora as an Old Worlder, she's a Zenith, and Vicki will do anything to protect the Tenakth. That doesn't mean she's not open to friendship, but there's a lot of work that's gonna have to be done. Though Allora would gain a steadfast and fierce friend in the Living Old One of the Tenakth.

what is the most in the rain you've ever been
I love this question.
Look, you might already know this, but I grew up less than 100 km from the rainiest place in North America.
In spite of digging shovel tests through prairie thunderstorms and currently living in a place where most of the rain comes in sheets heavy enough to damage crops, the Most Rain award goes to riding my motorbike up and down Vancouver Island in my late teens and early 20s.
I used to ride my bike all year, as my only vehicle. For a while I was riding a few hundred km a week between where I lived, where my partner lived, and where I was working.
I soaked through my army gore-tex jacket more than once, which a few of my ex-army friends have told me should be impossible. I've given myself hypothermia in above-freezing temperatures a few times. Some days I had to ride dead in the middle of the lane because the ruts on the highway had filled up with an inch or so of water.
Where I grew up it pretty much starts raining in October and doesn't let up until May. 'the most rain' is the default for me, and everywhere else seems really dry and sunny by comparison.
